Nubble Lighthouse remains one of the most popular lighthouses in Maine. Built in 1879, this beautiful beacon only cost the government $15,000 to erect and sits on an island at the Cape Neddick Peninsula. The main house is a stunning Victorian boasting six rooms in the shape of a cross. The tower is set to flash every six seconds and is forty feet high, but built on the highest point of the island, this beacon of safety totals 88 feet in height. The lighthouse was automated by the Coast Guard in 1987 and in 1998 was turned over to the Town of York.
